 In the 21st century, Europe exhibits her diversity and hybridity under the progressive influence of the European Union. The NCCU Department of European Languages and Cultures and European Union Research Center conduct and promote research on European literature, culture, language teaching, and the European Union studies. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of our Department, we will organize the international conference on Tradition and Innovation in Europe and in the European Union which will be held on May 12, 2017.

        The main topics of the conference will be focused on tradition and innovation in European literature, culture, language teaching and the European Union studies. Papers on the following sub-topics or areas of interest are also warmly invited:


1.     European diaspora/travel literature

2.     European eco- literature/culture

3.     European popular literature/culture

4.     Gender studies in Europe

5.     Urban space and body image in European literature/culture

6.     Multiculturalism and identity in the European Union

7.     Discourse on European history and memory

8.     Translation studies

9.     European language education

10.  Oral narrative and tradition

11.  New trends on European language learning and teaching

12.  Refugees and migrants in the European Union

13.  Age/Aging studies

14.  Post-humanist studies

The Conference will be held at National Chengchi University (on the main campus located at 64, Sec. 2, Chi-Nan Road, Taipei 116) on May 12, 2017.


l  Please submit an abstract of the paper of no more than 500 words both in English and Chinese (in one page, with 5 key words) with title of paper and personal information (see as attached the registration form) by August 15, 2016 to 2017euro@nccu.edu.tw

l  Notification of the results of abstract review will be sent by e-mail by our Conference Organizing Committee before September 5, 2016.

l  The final paper of the Conference should be formatted for A4 size paper, and should not exceed 20 pages (36 characters per line, 34 lines per page in Chinese; double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman in English).

l  Language used in the Conference: English, Chinese, French, German or Spanish.

l  Deadline for full paper submission will be on April 15, 2017.
